The situation on the border of Ukraine and Russia became the main topic of telephone conversation between presidents of the United States and Finland, Joe Biden and Sauli Niinistö. They noted the importance of cooperation in de-escalating tensions.

The leaders also discussed bilateral relations. Niinistö informed Biden about the main directions of Finland’s security policy. In addition, the Finnish leader said that he appreciates NATO’s “open door” policy.
The conversation took place on the eve just before the talks between the presidents of Finland and Russia scheduled for today.
