The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has granted permission to conduct a pre-trial investigation in absentia of the misappropriation of the “Mezhyhirya” residence by Viktor Yanukovych and his son.
UA reports this with reference to the Facebook post of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).
“On August 25, 2021, the investigating judge of the HACC fulfilled the request of the detective of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), approved by the SAP prosecutor, to grant permission for a special pre-trial investigation (in absentia) against the former owner of the “Mezhyhirya” state residence, and his son, who are suspected of illegal misappropriation of buildings on the territory of Vyshhorod district” – the statement reads.
According to investigation, the damage caused to the state exceeds UAH 500 million.
The decision will provide an opportunity to complete the pre-trial investigation into the suspects, who have been hiding in Russia for 7 years.
To remind, the territory of “Mezhyhirya” belongs to the state, while the buildings located on it belong to the “Tantalit” company and ex-president Viktor Yanukovych, in particular. At the same time, all those buildings are under arrest, as part of criminal proceedings.
