Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed a law ratifying the Treaty between Azerbaijan and Ukraine on legal assistance in civil and commercial matters, completing the country’s ratification process, UATV English reports.
The agreement was signed on April 25, 2026, in Gabala, Azerbaijan, during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s official visit to the country. Ukraine was represented by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, while Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov signed on behalf of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan’s parliament approved the treaty on July 10 before it was signed into law by Aliyev.
The agreement is intended to strengthen legal cooperation between the two countries and facilitate mutual legal assistance in civil and commercial cases.
According to Ukrainian officials, the treaty is strategically important for protecting the rights of Ukrainian citizens abroad. It also forms part of Ukraine’s broader transition away from the 1993 Minsk Convention framework toward a system of bilateral legal assistance agreements with partner countries.
