Russian terror against civilian vessels in the Black Sea could lead to a spike in food prices, striking the most vulnerable segments of the population.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on X, UATV English reports.
“Russia’s escalating terror against civilian cargo vessels in the Black Sea poses a serious threat to global food security. If Moscow doesn’t stop its strikes, the resulting food price shock will hit the most vulnerable populations, especially in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America,” he noted.
Sybiha called on the world for global solidarity, and on countries in these regions to appeal to Vladimir Putin and demand an immediate end to attacks on freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.
“Russia is doing to the Black Sea and food security what Iran did to the Strait of Hormuz and energy security. Don’t stay silent! Act now to stop Russian terror, the weaponization of food, and the use of hunger as a tool of war,” Ukraine’s foreign minister stressed.
As previously reported, on July 19, a Russian military strike on a merchant vessel flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau near Odesa killed 10 people, including a pilot from the state enterprise “Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine.”
Ukraine has requested an urgent UN Security Council meeting on July 27 in response to Russia’s attacks on freedom of navigation in the Black Sea.
