Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha met with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun in Seoul to discuss Ukraine’s reconstruction, security cooperation, and the growing challenges posed by military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said, UATV English reports.

“Our talks confirmed the strong and dynamic nature of cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea. We discussed ways to deepen high-level political dialogue, expand economic and business ties, involve South Korean companies in Ukraine’s recovery, and strengthen security cooperation,” Sybiha said.

The Ukrainian foreign minister briefed his counterpart on the battlefield situation, Ukraine’s efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, and the latest developments in the country’s defense industry.

Sybiha thanked Seoul for its steadfast support and stressed that Russia’s aggression has global consequences, pointing to Moscow’s growing military cooperation with North Korea, including the transfer of resources and technologies in exchange for Pyongyang’s support in the war against Ukraine.

The ministers discussed the shared security challenges arising from closer ties between the two regimes and agreed that stronger Ukraine–South Korea cooperation would contribute to security, stability, and respect for international law in both Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.

The two sides also discussed the issue of North Korean prisoners of war.

“We have a clear understanding of the next steps in accordance with international humanitarian law,” Sybiha said.
