Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov and UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves discussed using proceeds from frozen Russian assets to help finance Ukraine’s defense, the minister said following their meeting, UATV English reports.
Fedorov urged the United Kingdom to unblock funding under the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) initiative as soon as possible and direct proceeds from frozen Russian assets to Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
“Our three constant priorities are air defense, long-range ammunition, and Ukrainian-made drones. These are the areas that should receive priority funding from our partners,” he said.
The defense minister also briefed Reeves on Ukraine’s AIR–LAND–ECONOMY strategy and ongoing defense procurement reforms, noting that Ukraine is introducing open competitive procurement procedures to improve efficiency and ensure more funding reaches the Armed Forces.
The talks also focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, with Fedorov stressing the continued need for interceptor missiles through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative to counter Russian ballistic missiles and guided aerial bombs.
The sides further discussed tightening sanctions against Russia, including measures targeting Moscow’s shadow fleet, which Ukraine says helps Russia circumvent sanctions and finance its war.
Fedorov thanked the United Kingdom for its consistent support, leadership, and continued assistance in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
