Following Sunday’s talks in Geneva, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that certain changes would be made to the U.S. side’s “peace proposals.”
Sky News reports this.
Rubio said the talks in Geneva were “the most productive and most important since we became involved in this process (the peace settlement – Ed.).”
“We have a very good working version that has already been created on the basis of proposals from all the relevant parties involved in this process, and we have now been able to go through some of these issues, point by point. And I believe we have made significant progress,” the Secretary of State said.
He added that representatives of the delegations are currently working on “some of the proposals that have been submitted to us.”
“So we are working on this, making some changes in the hope of further narrowing the differences and moving closer to something that will be acceptable both to Ukraine and, of course, to the United States,” Rubio said.
Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian delegation at the talks, Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak, announced the completion of the first round of negotiations with the U.S. delegation in Geneva and called it “very productive”; he also announced a second meeting on Sunday with the participation of European partners.
“I would like to confirm: we held a very productive first meeting with the distinguished U.S. delegation. We achieved very good progress and are moving forward toward a just and lasting peace,” Yermak said.
Yermak thanked the United States and personally President Donald Trump and his team “for their commitment to the cause of peace.”
“Later today, a second meeting will take place, where we will continue working on joint proposals with the involvement of our European partners. Final decisions will be made by our presidents,” the Head of the Presidential Office added.
