President’s special envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, confirmed that the U.S. leader believes it is appropriate for Ukrainian forces to carry out long-range strikes on Russian territory.
Kellogg said this in an interview with Fox News.
Commenting on Trump’s position regarding strikes by Ukrainian forces deep into Russian territory — potentially using American weapons — Kellogg noted that Ukrainians never asked for American troops; instead they asked for “weapons, the capability, and permission to use them.”
When asked whether Ukrainian forces have permission to use U.S. weapons in that way, Kellogg replied: “It varies.”
“Sometimes they have that permission, sometimes they don’t. I think everyone should follow the president’s directives. He is the Commander-in-Chief according to the Constitution, and everyone must obey him. If the president goes left, you go left. If he says go right, you go right. That’s just the way the president is. By the way, none of us got the Electoral College votes, and he did. So when the president says to do something, we just have to do it and carry it out,” Kellogg said.
Asked directly whether Trump’s position is that Ukraine may carry out long-range strikes on Russia and whether that was sanctioned by the president, Kellogg answered affirmatively.
“I think, reading what he said, and what Vice President Vance and Secretary Rubio said, the answer is yes. Use the capability to strike at long range. There are no such things as safe zones. That is one of the reasons, I think, that last week — and this was confirmed — President Zelenskyy asked President Trump for Tomahawk missiles,” Kellogg said.
He clarified that the decision on potentially providing those missiles has not yet been made and depends solely on President Trump.
A day earlier, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed that discussions are underway within Donald Trump’s administration about the potential provision of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
According to media reports, Trump at a meeting in New York last week told Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he was ready to lift restrictions on Kyiv’s use of long-range American weapons.
