Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski contacted U.S. presidential envoy Keith Kellogg immediately after a Russian strike damaged the consular section of Poland’s embassy in Kyiv on July 4, urging the resumption of air defense supplies to Ukraine.
According to The Telegraph, following the overnight missile attack, Sikorski called Kellogg directly, stating:
“Putin is mocking your peace efforts. Please resume the delivery of anti-aircraft munitions to Ukraine.”
The report notes that Kellogg appeared most affected by the news that a NATO ally’s embassy had come under attack. He then phoned President Donald Trump, briefed him on the strike, and highlighted that the Polish consulate had been hit.
Discussions reportedly followed regarding the risks and potential benefits of expanding U.S. deliveries of air defense systems and interceptors to Ukraine.
Trump then ordered Kellogg to contact U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and resume the halted shipments. This included releasing some PAC-3 systems that had been temporarily frozen.
