Demonstrations have begun in Washington and across the United States against the policies of President Donald Trump and his ally Elon Musk, who is involved in downsizing the government. In total, around 1,200 protest actions are planned for April 5 in all 50 states.

The demonstrations, titled “Hands Off!”, are organized by more than 150 civil groups. Organizers expect that the main rally in Washington will gather over 20,000 people.
Protesters are dissatisfied with actions by the Trump administration regarding the dismissal of federal employees, the closure of local Social Security offices, the dismantling of entire agencies, the deportation of immigrants, the reduction of protections for transgender people, and cuts to federal funding of healthcare programs.
In Washington, some demonstrators came to the protest with Ukrainian flags, while others wore keffiyeh scarves in support of Palestine.
Thousands of people also gathered in Boston, Massachusetts. They held signs reading “Hands off our democracy,” “Hands off our Social Security,” and “Equal inclusion of diversity makes America strong.”
In Florida, hundreds of people held a demonstration in Palm Beach Gardens, just a few kilometers from Trump’s golf club. People lined both sides of the road, calling on drivers to honk in support.
Trump himself was also in Florida, where he played golf at his club and then returned to his residence at Mar-a-Lago.
At the White House, in response to the protesters’ accusations, they said that “the president’s position is clear: he will always protect Social Security, Medicare, and healthcare for the appropriate beneficiaries.” At the same time, they criticized the Democrats for “providing benefits and healthcare to illegal foreigners,” which, according to the Trump administration, could lead to the bankruptcy of federal programs.
A few hours before the protests began in the United States, protests also took place in Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, and London. Additionally, it was announced that rallies would be held in Canada and Mexico.
