On August 18, another Ukrainian plane took off for Kabul airport to evacuate 150 Ukrainian citizens.
This was reported by UA with reference to RBC-Ukraine.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko, there are two Ukrainian planes at Kabul airport. Plans are being worked out: to evacuate citizens on a plane that is already at Kabul airport, and to evacuate the plane of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, which flew today from Kyiv. He added that there are 3 immediate tasks that Ukrainian diplomats are currently solving.
“The evacuation will begin as soon as these problems are resolved. We hope that this will happen in the nearest future” – said Oleh Nikolenko.
The first task is a safe corridor for access to the airport, because the situation there remains partially uncontrollable, part of the airport is closed, the other part is controlled by foreign troops, and a number of checkpoints are located at the entrances to the airport.
The second is the safe boarding of people on the plane and technical training.
The third is to obtain permission to take off and safely leave the territory of Afghanistan.
On August 15, the Taliban entered the suburbs of Kabul. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has resigned and left the country. The Taliban said they would wait for the final withdrawal of foreign troops before forming a new government.
On August 17, 120 Ukrainians appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to leave Afghanistan, which was under the control of the Taliban. There is a plane at Kabul airport that is supposed to take Ukrainian citizens out, but it cannot take off due to a ban on flights for civilian aircraft.
