Ukraine has developed a vision to break the deadlock within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and will soon present its plan to partner states.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced this during a joint press briefing with Finnish Foreign Minister and current OSCE Chair Elina Valtonen.
Sybiha stated that despite hopes for lasting peace after the Cold War and the collapse of the USSR, Europe is now witnessing a full-scale war in Ukraine.
“This shows that international mechanisms have failed. Dialogue — the cornerstone of the OSCE — has failed. But not because the OSCE is flawed. The root cause lies in Moscow,” he emphasized.
“Ukraine has a clear vision for a comprehensive reform of the OSCE. We will propose five steps that can help bring the organization out of its current stalemate,” Sybiha added.
Elina Valtonen, Foreign Minister of Finland and current OSCE Chair, also stressed the need to reform the organization to ensure it can effectively fulfill its mandate.
As a reminder, last week the Netherlands and 40 other OSCE countries launched a special mechanism to investigate reports of torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia.
