Japan will provide Ukraine, for preparation for the next winter, cables, units, transformers and other equipment. This was stated by the Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome at the international conference Ukraine Energy Coordination Group (UECG), as UATV English reports.

Japan, according to its representative, supported energy supply and the protection of energy facilities last winter by providing cogeneration units, gas turbines, generators, transformers, cables, and other equipment. Masashi Nakagome emphasized that deliberate attacks by Russia on infrastructure in the midst of the harshest winter in decades cannot be justified, and Japan strongly condemns them.

The country, the ambassador assured, will cooperate with Ukraine in preparation for the next winter season as well. In particular, with Japan’s support, according to the diplomat, by the coming winter 7 large transformers and one modular house will be ready. The country will also provide cables necessary for connecting generators, 6,400 gabion blocks for the protection of energy infrastructure, 62 medium-sized transformers, and one large crane for repairing energy infrastructure, as well as additional data support systems for the electricity and heating sectors.

The Japanese ambassador reported that his country has provided Ukraine with assistance totaling $20 billion, including $6 billion in financial and budgetary support announced in December last year, as well as $41 billion in grants and non-repayable assistance for recovery and reconstruction.

He also noted that international attention to Ukraine should not decrease, in particular due to events in the Middle East. It is extremely important that all parties, including the Group of Seven, remain united in supporting Ukraine.

“We all need to maintain the will and the capacity to support Ukraine. Japan will stand with Ukraine during the next winter and will respond to Ukraine’s needs, especially in the energy sector. Japan will continue to provide targeted and uninterrupted assistance to contribute to Ukraine’s better recovery,” the diplomat assured.

The Ukraine Energy Coordination Group is also known as the “Energy Ramstein.” The current conference is dedicated to identifying Ukraine’s priority needs for stable passage of the autumn-winter season 2026/2027.
