The King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Charles III, during a speech in the U.S. Congress, sent a veiled signal to the administration of Donald Trump regarding Ukraine and NATO in the context of Western support for the United States following the September 11 attacks.

This was reported by Politico, which analyzed the speech of the British monarch, as UATV English conveys.

The publication notes that British monarchs convey their political messages in a coded form, therefore the hint made by Charles III regarding September 11 deserves explanation.

During his speech in the U.S. Congress on Tuesday, the British king stated that “immediately after the events of September 11, when NATO invoked Article 5 for the first time… we responded together to the call, as our nations have done for more than a century, side by side.”

“This is a carefully directed rebuttal to Donald Trump and his allies in Congress that, contrary to the president’s repeated claims in recent weeks, NATO was in fact ready to help America in a difficult time,” Politico notes.

The British king plans to visit the September 11 memorial in New York City, so the attacks that occurred there almost 25 years ago are at the center of his attention, the publication writes.

In addition, Charles III linked the defining moment of 2001 “with the need to preserve Western unity in support of Ukraine amid the war,” the publication says. He stated in his speech that “today, that same unwavering determination is needed to defend Ukraine and its bravest people — to ensure a truly just and lasting peace.”

“The king expresses a completely different position from Donald Trump, who has continuously criticized Ukraine and its President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with whom Charles has repeatedly met for private talks over the past few years. This part (of the speech) is a direct appeal to Trump and Republicans in Congress to maintain U.S. support against the Russian invasion,” Politico emphasizes.

As Ukrinform reported, Charles III and Camilla, Queen Consort are on a four-day state visit to the United States. The monarch has already met with Donald Trump.

He also addressed Congress, where he emphasized the need for decisive action to support Ukraine and achieve a just peace.

Earlier, Donald Trump repeatedly criticized NATO and stated the possibility of the United States withdrawing from the Alliance, in particular in the context of the war with Iran.
