Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for vigilance against Russia’s attempts to simulate diplomacy in order to derail new sanctions decisions from Ukraine’s allies.
Ukraine’s top diplomat wrote this on X, UATV English reports.
“A clear pattern has emerged in recent years: every time new serious sanctions are brewing, especially from the US, Putin does everything he can to buy time,” Sybiha stressed.
He noted that Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s “favorite weapon” is “fake diplomacy, staged phone calls, and meetings held in bad faith.”
“Given that Senator Lindsey Graham’s sanctions bill will be introduced next week, we need to stay on alert. Russia may try to derail this by pretending to care about peace,” Sybiha stressed.
According to him, timely sanctions decisions would push the Kremlin to end hostilities.
“Strengthening sanctions pressure on Moscow is not just a timely step — it is vital for countering Russian terror and forcing it into a genuine end to this war,” Ukraine’s foreign minister concluded.
As previously reported, the bill drafted by Senator Lindsey Graham to substantially strengthen anti-Russia sanctions has secured sufficient support in the US Senate.
Today, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed to Russian leader Vladimir Putin that they “freeze” the war in Ukraine with the assistance of world powers.
