13th package of sanctions against Russia approved ahead of February 24

On February 21, the EU ambassadors have approved the 13th package of sanctions against Russia.

This was reported by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU 2024 on X.

The package will undergo a written procedure and be published in the coming days to mark the two-year anniversary of the full-scale war on February 24.

“This package is one of the broadest approved by the EU,” said the statement.

The EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen and Josep Borrell welcomed the agreement on the new sanctions.

“We must keep degrading Putin’s war machine. With 2000 listings in total, we keep the pressure high on the Kremlin. We are also further cutting Russia’s access to drones,” Ursula von der Leyen elaborated on the measures.

The previous package was adopted in December, 2023.

Also, White House is developing a new package of sanctions against Russia after Navalnyy’s death on Friday, according to John Kirby. These sanctions will be an additional measure to those marking the two-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion to Ukraine.
