The target of the Russian night attack on Ukraine with missiles, including Kinzhal, and drones was the American anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) Patriot (“Patriot”). This opinion was expressed today, on May 16, on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel by Alexander Kovalenko, a military-political observer of the Information Resistance group.
“I believe that this was indeed an element of the Patriot SAM hunt. And given the fact that they used the “Kinzhal”, I do not exclude that they had some intelligence information about the location of the Patriot air defense system. Since, today, “Kinzhal” is considered, let’s say, the pinnacle of Russian rocket science, which is “impossible to intercept”, “there is not a single air defense that can cope with it and which can fix it.” Sergei Shoigu (Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, – ed.) spoke about this at one time. But the fact that Shoigu overestimated this missile so much is not surprising, he is not a military man, he is mainly engaged in deer farming, ”he said.
According to the observer, if we talk about the capabilities of the “Kinzhal”, then even the first case of the defeat of the “Kinzhal” by the Patriot air defense system has already indicated that the “Kinzhal” is not so invulnerable to this complex.
“And not only for this complex. We are now getting a Franco-Italian SAMP / T, and it is essentially an analogue of the Patriot. And similarly, it should effectively destroy these missiles. That is, we are expanding the ability to destroy these Russian missile prodigies. They used 6 units in order to break through the air defense and destroy the object in a certain location. But, as you know, they failed. And they just once again suffered such a fiasco and shame. Again, the rocket, which has no analogues in the world, was highly effectively destroyed in its complete set, which was released, ”says Kovalenko.
He also noted an interesting point – if the Russians were guaranteed to want to destroy the Patriot air defense system, then why did they launch 6 “Kinzhal”?
“Why didn’t they launch, for example, 12? It is 12 because today Russia has only 12 MiGs in the “K” modification, which are carriers of “Kinzhal”. There is such a suspicion that the other 6 MiGs they have are simply not combat-ready right now. And it is very interesting to see how this hunting will develop in the future,” summed up Alexander Kovalenko.
