The United States believes that the right of Ukraine to determine its prospects for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as the decisions of the states of the Alliance itself on its expansion, correspond to the foundations of European security.
This was stated at a briefing in Washington D.C. by press secretary of the White House Jen Psaki, commenting on the reaction of the United States to the demands of the Russian Foreign Ministry to provide guarantees that NATO will not expand to the east and that Ukraine will not join the Alliance, UA reports.
“The opinion of the U.S. President and Administration is that the choice of sovereign states in terms of partnership and alliance is a key principle of European security. The United States continues to support countries’ aspirations to join NATO and meet specific requirements. Regarding the relationship between NATO and Ukraine, this is a question that should be determined only by Ukraine and the 30 allies of the NATO” – she said.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine will join NATO when it becomes a powerful state in the sphere of security.
