On November 23, a special border operation “Polissya” began on the border of Ukraine with the Republic of Belarus.
This was reported by UA with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
The special operation is coordinated by the State Border Guard Service and is carried out jointly with the forces of the National Guard, the National Police, the Armed Forces and other involved reserves.
At the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, the threat of a migration crisis and the likelihood of redirecting migrant flows to Ukraine remain. Therefore, law enforcement agencies are working together to increase the border protection system in this area.
“In order to further respond to the possible complication of the situation, a joint special border operation has been agreed with the interacting state structures and a corresponding plan has been worked out. And last night it (Operation Polissya, ed.) Officially began” – said Volodymyr Nikiforenko, First Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
The main task of the special operation is to prevent illegal migrants from crossing the state border and entering Ukraine. For this purpose the work of all involved forces is coordinated.
The control of the state border regime will be carried out by increased border patrols with simultaneous increase of forces and means in possible directions of attempts to break through groups of illegal migrants.
The following elements are used in border protection:
- aviation;
- unmanned aerial vehicles;
- technical means of observation.
Within the controlled border areas, checkpoints will be set up on highways and patrol the main roads leading to the state border, bus and railway stations will be inspected, and preventive measures will be taken in border settlements.
