USD 8 billion is the amount of money needed for the global COVID-19 vaccination program.
This was stated by the UN Secretary General, speaking in Berlin at a conference on health, UA reports.
Antonio Guterres said he had previously joined Tedros Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization, to launch a global coronavirus vaccination strategy.
“A reliable and cost-effective plan to deliver vaccines to 40 percent of people in all countries by the end of this year and 70 percent by mid-2022. We need manufacturers and countries to meet their dose-sharing obligations equally, so that they share technologies that can allow more countries to produce vaccines. We need an immediate infusion of USD 8 billion to ensure fair distribution – and we call on the G20 to help us with that” – he said.
