Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov stressed that escalation of the situation in Donbas by the Russian Federation at the end of January 2022 is a plausible scenario.

He said this during a speech in the Parliament, UA reports.

According to the Minister, Ukrainian intelligence is analyzing all scenarios, including the worst.

“It [intelligence] notes that there is a probability of a large-scale escalation on the part of Russia. The most likely time to reach readiness for escalation will be the end of January. I emphasize that escalation is a plausible scenario, but it is not necessary. And our task is to avert it. The better we work alone and with our partners, the less considerable the threat of escalation is” – Reznikov said.

He added that Ukraine is most interested in the diplomatic settlement scenario.

“There can be no violent provocations on our part. At the same time, the way to appease the aggressor is not considered. If necessary, Ukraine will fight back” – said the Minister of Defense.

To remind, Reznikov stated that the international partners of Ukraine promised to act ahead of time in the event of Russia’s attack on Ukraine or aggravation at the border.
