Taras Shevchenko Memorial Exhibit

The building in Kyiv where Taras Shevchenko spent one year of his life, is today a museum dedicated to the famous Ukrainian poet, artist and nationalist.

The museum permanently displays Shevchenko’s life in Kyiv, but a different exhibition was held yesterday, March 10.

Shevchenko died 157 years ago on March 10. The museum staff launched an art project, Requiem for Shevchenko, for his 157th death anniversary.

Items, such as his paintings and death mask were presented to the public for the first time. Clothes, dishes, paintbrushes and more than 200 other personal belongings were also displayed.

Next year, the museum promises to surprise visitors with other unique exhibits from the life of “Kobzar,” which is a nickname given to Shevchenko after his popular book of poems also by the same name.
