The Minister of Internal Affairs of Lithuania, Agne Bilotaite, announced that a national mass evacuation plan will be developed in the country by the beginning of October.
LRT reports.
Bilotaite believes that the country should currently have a plan for the evacuation of the population on a national scale, and also be ready to implement it.
“Each self-government has its own evacuation plan, but it is clear that we must have a plan on a national scale and be ready to implement it,” she said.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Lithuania emphasized that due to cyberattacks, the safety of the population has become a priority issue. She emphasized that civil defense is more relevant than ever.
“The war against Ukraine continues, the countries of our region are subjected to hybrid and disinformation attacks, and sabotage is our new reality. It is important to note that we are at the forefront, so today civilian protection has become a priority,” the official explained.
Also, according to her, it is not enough to strengthen civil defense at the national level, so it was decided to work together with other Baltic countries, and the countries will also apply for funding from the European Union.
“We must coordinate our efforts at the regional and European level. It is expensive, but it is important to combine our capabilities and receive support from the EU. We call for a risk assessment to better understand the threats and strengthen measures to protect the population,” the minister said.
As you know, in June, the German government developed a new plan in case of war against the background of the threat from Russia.
