The Minister of Finance of Ukraine Sergii Marchenko held an online meeting with the newly appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer of the United Kingdom Kwasi Kwarteng.
Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine Olga Zykova and Ukraine’s Government Commissioner for Public Debt Management Yuriy Butsa also took part in the meeting.
The parties discussed the current financial situation in the country, Ukraine’s need for additional financing, and further cooperation between the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the Exchequer of the United Kingdom.
Sergii Marchenko congratulated Kwasi Kwarteng on his appointment and expressed gratitude for the long-term cooperation with the Government of the United Kingdom.
Kwasi Kwarteng noted that the HM Treasury under his leadership will continue to support Ukraine to accelerate the victory of our country in the war.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has received financial assistance for USD 577 million from the United Kingdom.
During the meeting, the Minister of Finance outlined the financial situation in the country and noted that due to the decrease in tax revenues caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the state needs additional financial support from foreign partners.
The parties agreed to maintain a systematic dialogue to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the HM Treasury of the United Kingdom.
