In German Bavaria, two men of dual nationality, Russian-German, have been accused of plotting an arson and bombings at military facilities.

This was reported by the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Karlsruhe, according to Der Spiegel.

According to German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, suspects attempted to sabotage German military aid to Ukraine on behalf of Russia.

“Our security authorities have prevented possible explosive attacks that were intended to target and undermine our military aid for Ukraine,” she stated.

The men took photographs of different US military facilities, including the US Army Garrison Grafenwoehr, where Ukrainian soldiers undergo training, on the use of M1 Abrams tanks in particular.

The detainees are believed to have been exchanging ideas with Russian secret service about sabotage operations in Germany since October 2023.

One of the suspects, Dieter S, may have fought for a pro-Russian armed force in occupied eastern Ukraine in 2014-2016.

After the arrest, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz claimed Germany can “never accept that such espionage activities take place in Germany”, hence, fighting against Russian espionage remains a top priority.
