The events that rocked the United States a year ago were when supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in an attempt to disrupt a Congressional counting meeting in the presidential election. Reported by UA.
Protesters attacked police officers and took over the building for several hours. 5 people were killed, 138 more were injured. More than 700 participants in the riots have been charged, and the trials are still ongoing.
Some experts describe the events as one of the darkest chapters in US life, while others believe this is the beginning of a success story for the United States. However, many fear that the “attack on democracy” could be repeated.
“As the latest opinion polls show, there is still a very high probability of a repeat of these events. Because even now, only 55% of Americans are confident that Biden honestly, legitimately won the elections in 2020. American democracy has shown that – yes, we can have upheavals. Yes, we are not perfect either. We never said we were perfect. But what sets us apart from others is our flexibility, our ability to react. Lawsuits are ongoing. And this once again showed that the millstones of justice rotate slowly, but they rotate. The Americans, it seems to me, will make their own success story out of this, ”said Oleksandr Kraev, director of the North America program at the Ukrainian Prism Council of Foreign Policy.
To remind, on January 2, protests erupted in Kazakhstan against a 2-2.5-fold increase in the price of liquefied gas to 120 tenge (USD 0.28). Then thousands of people went to rallies, in particular, in the largest cities of Zhanaozen and Aktau. Demonstrators announced an indefinite action.
