The Swiss government is getting ready to host the first Global Peace Summit pursuing sustainable peace in Ukraine.
This was reported by Reuters, citing the Federal Council.
“There is currently sufficient international support for a high-level conference to launch the peace process,” says the statement by the Federal Council of Switzerland.
As media reported before, the conference will take place near Lucerne, precisely at the Bürgenstock resort in the canton of Nidwalden outside the city of Lucerne.
According to the recent statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, 120 heads of state and government will receive invitations to the event. The list has been negotitated between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Switzerland officials. Previously, they agreed to continue working on involving as many countries as possible to participate in the summit to develop a common vision for the practical achievement of a just, sustainable, and comprehensive peace for Ukraine.
“The summit will be a logical continuation of the work on the implementation of the Ukrainian peace formula, including meetings at the level of ambassadors of more than 80 countries accredited to Ukraine, as well as four meetings of national security advisers to be held in Copenhagen, Jeddah, Malta, and Davos,” says the statement on the website of Ukraine’s President.
Russia did not show any desire to be present at the summit and refused to do so only to later claim that the talks without its participation are “pointless”.
Meanwhile, China, Russia’s ally in the Russia-Ukraine, is considering its presence and many Ukraine’s partners expext to see a Chinese representative in Switzerland.
Swiss President Viola Amherd doesn’t guarantee June’s initiative will be a success as in ending war immediately, moreover, achieveing solid peace which is a comprehensive process.
Previously, Switzerland allocated 5 billion Swiss francs for the restoration of Ukraine.
