The official topics of negotiations between Russia and the United States do not directly concern Ukraine, but they are aimed at ensuring security in the region.

This was stated by Oleksandr Khara, an expert on foreign policy and security at the Center for Defense Strategies of Ukraine, UA writes.

According to him, the international partners have taken a principled position in relation to the Kremlin and made it clear that Ukraine will independently choose its own path. He also stressed that Washington will not stop providing military support to Ukraine.

“The question of NATO or the prohibition of some countries to join NATO, any agreements with Russia, formal or informal, is not at all worth it, and several high-ranking officials of the Biden administration, as well as the NATO secretary general, clearly stated this. We saw the predictable negative reaction from Finland and Sweden, which are not NATO members, but definitely do not accept the fact that Russia should have a say in these issues” – explained Khara.

As you know, from 10 to 13 January, a number of events related to security and peace will be held in Europe. So, on January 10, a bilateral strategic stability dialogue (SSD) between the United States and Russia will take place in Geneva, and a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine commission will take place in Brussels. On January 11-12, the US delegation will hold consultations with the NATO leadership, NATO allies and EU officials on European security issues in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
