President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on Donald Trump’s statement in which he expressed “understanding” of Putin’s reaction to the prospect of Ukraine joining NATO. The Ukrainian leader urged not to rush to conclusions about US policy and emphasized the need for specific security guarantees for Ukraine.

At a meeting with Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine needs clear security mechanisms that can effectively deter the Kremlin’s aggression.

“Ukraine was told that Patriot systems can only be in NATO countries. Today we already see a different reality. Our country deserves decent security guarantees that can stop Putin,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

He also emphasized that security guarantees depend not only on the position of the United States, but also on the support of European allies.

Earlier, Donald Trump said that Joe Biden had allegedly violated the “agreement” on Ukraine’s non-inclusion in NATO, which, according to Trump, was a pretext for a full-scale war. Trump also stated that he would not abandon Ukraine in his attempts to resolve the conflict, but criticized the promise of NATO membership.

Trump’s statements again raise questions about the approach of the future US administration to the Russian-Ukrainian war. At the same time, Zelenskyy emphasizes the need to strengthen security mechanisms for Ukraine as a guarantee of stability in the region.
