President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said security guarantees following the example of Israel, where the country receives comprehensive financial, political, and military support from the U.S. and its allies, are “good proposals on the way to NATO” that should be “explored in detail.”

The head of state said this in an interview with Italian journalist Cecilia Sala for the Il Foglio newspaper, Ukrinform reports.

“These are very good proposals. Yes, of course, this is not NATO, but it’s on the way to NATO. That is, Israel receives technologies, air defense, money, and is developing – this is a fact. Not only are missiles being downed, there were also strikes by other countries on their enemies. So far, no country has fired in response at those locations in Russia from where missiles and warplanes took off, targeting our people and killing them, even at military targets. This is a fact. It’s only we who are fighting,” Zelenskyy stressed.

He recalled that with regard to Ukraine, some states were not happy that “we are striking back at the Russia, at their energy infrastructure, at their military targets, which was in fact absolutely fair.”

“They even wanted to ban us from doing this,” the president noted.

In this context, he also noted that “I would like to understand what kind of security guarantees these are.”

“I would like to explore these proposals in detail,” Zelenskyy said.

As reported, on December 3, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Budapest Memorandum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated the only real guarantee of security for Ukraine, as well as a deterrent for further aggression by Russia against Ukraine and other states, is only Ukraine’s full membership of NATO.
