President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on his victory in the U.S. election, even before the official results were announced.
Zelenskyy shared his message on X (formerly Twitter), recalling the “wonderful meeting with President Trump” in September, where they “discussed in detail” the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the U.S., the “plan for victory,” and ways to end Russian aggression against Ukraine.
“I appreciate President Trump’s commitment to the ‘peace through strength’ approach in global affairs,” the Ukrainian leader emphasized.
Zelenskyy believes that this principle can genuinely bring a just peace to Ukraine and expressed hope that, together with Trump, they would be able to implement it.
“We are looking forward to an era of strong United States under President Trump’s decisive leadership. We count on continued bipartisan support for Ukraine in the United States,” Zelenskyy stated.
The Ukrainian president highlighted that Ukraine is interested in developing mutually beneficial political and economic cooperation that will benefit both countries.
Zelenskyy also added that he “looks forward” to the opportunity to personally congratulate Trump and “discuss ways to strengthen Ukraine’s strategic partnership with the U.S.”
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán became the first European leader to congratulate Trump on his victory, not waiting for the official results.
As reported earlier, several election models are predicting Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.
Trump himself has already declared victory and promised to fight daily for “a strong, safe, and prosperous America.”
