Volodymyr Zelenskyy opposes the construction of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. He believes that this is a “security trap” for Ukraine and Europe. The head of state announced this on July 5, during the Forum “Ukraine 30. International Politics”, UA informs.

“This is a weapon against Ukraine and, I am sure, will be a weapon against the entire Europe. This is a direct security trap for everyone. We should continue to oppose the implementation of this project and involve all partners in this struggle. Europe should unite in order to confront this energy threat” – the president stressed.

In particular, according to him the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe and other international organizations should be involved in countering the construction of the gas pipeline.

It should be noted that Nord Stream 2 is a Russian gas pipeline that has been built bypassing Ukraine since 2018. It is laid along the bottom of the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany. The construction cost is estimated at 9.5 billion euros. The only shareholder of the project is Gazprom. In December 2019, construction was suspended due to US sanctions. Then the gas pipeline was built by 96%.
