President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that the Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s desire to do business with Russia is a security issue both for Slovakia and for all of Europe.
He wrote about this on X (Twitter).
According to Zelenskyy, Moscow offers significant discounts to Fico, but Slovakia ultimately pays for them.
“These discounts are not free – Russia pays for them with sovereignty or shadow schemes. This should interest the Slovak law enforcement agencies and intelligence services,” he wrote.
The Ukrainian president shared that the details of such financing were revealed during a recent meeting of European leaders in Brussels.
The leaders noted that Fico does not want to participate in the joint European effort for energy independence or seek alternatives to Russian gas. On the contrary, he wants to help Russia push American gas and energy resources out of Europe, which, according to Zelenskyy, means he is helping Putin make money to finance the war and weaken Europe.
“We are losing people because of the war Putin started, and we believe such help to Putin is immoral,” the president emphasized.
He added that Fico even rejected compensations that would ease the transitional period and help get rid of dependency. For him, this is not a security issue, Zelenskyy noted.
“Therefore, his key goal is to do business with Russia, and that is what benefits him. This is truly a major security issue for both Slovakia and all of Europe. Why is this leader so dependent on Moscow? What is he being paid with, and what is he paying in return?” asked the president of Ukraine.
On Sunday, Robert Fico arrived in Moscow for a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. He shared that he had informed EU leaders about his visit.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda criticized Fico’s visit, as did the Czech Republic.
