NATO countries will not use their own forces to unblock the export of Ukrainian grain by engaging in a confrontation with Russian ships in the Black Sea. Yehor Chernev, Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, said this on the air of the FREEDOM TV channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“If we are talking about Ukrainian waters, NATO’s position will remain exactly the same as it has been for the past year and a half. They will not enter the war on our side and somehow unblock Ukrainian grain by their own forces and, accordingly, engage in opposition or confrontation with Russian ships. If we are still talking about NATO waters, then, of course, there will be a reaction. If the ships of the Russian Federation enter NATO waters, I think that there will definitely be an appropriate reaction,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chernev added that the Alliance is ready to protect every inch of the land of NATO countries with all allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for Turkey’s assistance, it can decide on its own whether it is ready to escort ships with Ukrainian grain with its fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“But I still don’t see such an option, let’s say, on the part of Erdogan and such readiness on the part of Erdogan\u2026 He talked about the fact that, in particular, the grain agreement will be discussed with Putin in August. Let’s see the results,” said Chernev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that not only NATO countries are reacting to Russia’s withdrawal from the grain agreement, but also the countries of the Global South, which will be most affected by the cessation of Ukrainian grain exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“And you see that this Russia-Africa summit or conference, which they are holding there in the Russian Federation, will be presented at a much lower level than expected. That is, out of 58 countries, only 17 will be represented at the level of the first persons. This is also a response to similar actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which entail consequences for the countries of the Global South,” said Chernev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also reminded that 60,000 tons of grain destroyed as a result of the Russian attack in the port of Odesa were intended for China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I think that this collective pressure on the Russian Federation will sooner or later lead to Russia’s return to this agreement. And Russia also understands this. And I understand that it is precisely by this logic that it will have to return to the grain agreement, which destroys our ready infrastructure so that when the Russian Federation allegedly returns to the agreement, we simply do not have the physical ability, the technical ability to continue shipping grain, because its infrastructure has already been destroyed by Russian missiles,” Chernev said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the grain corridor through the Black Sea was the most effective, and transportation by alternative routes leads to an increase in grain delivery times and its cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Transportation by sea is cheaper than transportation by rail or land transport. Therefore, there may be an alternative, but our grain will become uncompetitive again. The terms will increase.
