The Ministry <\/strong>of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said it was surprised <\/strong>and disappointed <\/strong>by the decision of Hungary <\/strong>to sign a new long-term contract with the Russian concern \u201cGazprom<\/strong>\u201d on September 27 <\/strong>in Budapest to supply gas bypassing Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is reported by UA<\/a> with the reference to the website<\/a> of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry considers this an exclusively political<\/strong>, economically <\/strong>unjustified decision taken to please the Kremlin and to the detriment of the national interests of Ukraine and Ukrainian-Hungarian<\/strong> relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe note with sadness that this decision is detrimental<\/strong> to positive results and trends in bilateral Ukrainian-Hungarian relations, for the achievement <\/strong>of which a lot of efforts and energy have been made personally by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Hungary Dmytro Kuleba<\/strong> and Peter Szijjarto<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry <\/strong>recalls that the fifth meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Hungarian Commission <\/strong>on Economic Cooperation, co-chaired by the foreign ministers of the two countries, was to take place in Budapest <\/strong>on September 29-30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine initiated the postponement of the Commission meeting to a later date, because the Hungarian-Russian gas agreement<\/strong> will have a significant impact on the energy security of Ukraine and Europe, creates new circumstances that require a comprehensive <\/strong>analysis of risks and threats, as well as coordinated actions of the countries of the region, to minimize <\/strong>its negative consequences\u201d \u2013 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the Ukrainian side will apply to the European Commission<\/strong> for an assessment of the conformity of the new Hungarian-Russian gas agreement with European energy <\/strong>legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
