{"id":419782,"date":"2019-11-30T15:49:08","date_gmt":"2019-11-30T13:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/endless-state-renovation-focus-surrealist-exhibit\/"},"modified":"2019-11-30T15:49:08","modified_gmt":"2019-11-30T13:49:08","slug":"endless-state-renovation-focus-surrealist-exhibit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/en\/endless-state-renovation-focus-surrealist-exhibit\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Endless State of Renovation&#8217; Focus of Surrealist Exhibit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5jQrUoeq0Lc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Tunis-born artist of Ukrainian origin, Nadia Kaabi-Linke, views repair and refurbishment as a &#8220;lifestyle&#8221; having to do with the Ukrainian mentality.<\/p>\n<p>Kaabi-Linke says looking back at the country&#8217;s history with a &#8220;succession of crises and traumas, people have still never lost their lightness of being and (their) optimism.&#8221; She believes part of this comes from a work ethic developed with the ongoing activity of reparation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I felt like reparation or refurbishment is not just an act of doing something; it&#8217;s really a way of being, and I wanted to translate this in an exhibition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kaabi-Linke&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.izolyatsia.org\/en\/project\/remont-nadia-kaabi-linke\">new exhibit<\/a> is an immersive installation titled &#8220;Remont.&#8221; It is a metaphor to &#8220;dig into the Ukrainian mentality,&#8221; she says.<\/p>\n<p>She defines Remont this way, &#8220;When you see street repairs or Institutional problems &#8230; we repair them but we repair them in a way that they create other problems, which we then have to repair in a different way.&#8221;<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-56711 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Remont-Shaky-Ground.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"366\" \/><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\">Photos from Izolyatsia.org<\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The artist describes the world and the current state of things and explains how her work begins from there. The installation brings elements of the outside world into the gallery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So it&#8217;s a succession of things where we think, &#8216;OK we have really touched the bottom and it&#8217;s not possible that we can go any lower&#8217; \u2013 and yet we still go lower,&#8221; Kaabi-Linke said.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to create instability, Kaabi-Linke uses a shaky floor with cobblestones not connected to each other. The missing mortar is found on the wall, &#8220;I really wanted to separate the problem from the solution &#8211; in a way that we are looking at the solution. There, we see what we should do so that the floor will be stable,&#8221; she says.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56712\" src=\"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Remont-Stare.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"366\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes though, the artist says, we may stare at the solution like a theory or a painting, &#8220;but we don&#8217;t have the courage to make the right decisions in order to avoid this shaky situation in which we are in.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, it\u2019s as if we prefer to work on an unstable floor rather than taking the solution and putting it inside the floor, and therefore connecting the two.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Remont&#8221; exhibit is being held at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.izolyatsia.org\/en\/project\/remont-nadia-kaabi-linke\">Izolyatsia<\/a> from November 2019\u201412 January 2020.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-56710\" src=\"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Remont-Unconnected.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"366\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\ufeff &nbsp;
