Crimean Tatar Edem Bekirov, currently being held by Russian authorities, has not received a required medical examination, which was\u00a0negotiated<\/a> between Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Liudmyla Denysova and her Russian counterpart Tatiana Moskalkova, Denysova wrote<\/a> on her Facebook. She also stated that the negotiation process, according to which Bekirov was expected to get the independent medical examination, turned unproductive.<\/p>\n

“Decisions of the European Court of Human Rights demanding that the Russian Federation immediately place Edem Bekirov in hospital and to provide him with proper medical examination and treatment, as well as to independent doctors, are not executed. Numerous appeals by me and my lawyers did not produce the expected results,” she stated.<\/p>\n

The so-called Supreme Court of Crimea, which is controlled by the occupying Russian authorities, issued a ruling to extend Bekirov’s detention until at least September 11, 2019 over the objections of his lawyers in the courtroom.<\/p>\n

During the session, Bekirov was denied both food and water. His lawyers complained about this but the judge was indifferent to the situation.<\/p>\n

There was no decision about the possible transfer of Bekirov to Krasnoperekopsk, which bears a serious threat to the prisoner’s life and health.<\/p>\n

According to a Facebook<\/a> post of journalist Anton Naumliuk, the “issue of jurisdiction,” that is, which court should be responsible for Bekirov’s case, may be considered later in the week or early next.<\/p>\n

Naumliuk also released the statement of Bekirov’s daughter, Eleonora Bekirova. According to Naumliuk, Bekirova called on the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to make all diplomatic efforts for her father’s release.<\/p>\n

“I demand to take all measures to achieve aid to my father, to achieve his treatment and, ultimately, release,” Bekirova wrote.<\/p>\n

She also added that her father is accused of fake allegations and that his persecutors are undoubtedly aware that they are slowly killing him. She said that for her and her relatives the question of her father’s release is a matter of not just diplomacy \u2014 but of life and death.<\/p>\n

According to Denysova,\u00a0further detention, accompanied by a failure to provide an independent doctor, lack of adequate treatment, and possible transportation to Krasnoperekopsk may have fatal consequences for Bekirov.<\/p>\n

Denysova called on numerous international organizations and foreign Embassies\u00a0to take measures to enforce the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights to save Bekriov’s life.<\/p>\n

The European Court of Human Rights issued an order on June 11, 2019 that Bekirov be immediately hospitalized, which has not yet happened.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
