The Chairman of Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament of Ukraine, Andriy Parubiy, made a statement about the end of the majority parliamentary coalition European Ukraine. The People’s Front parliamentary faction announced its withdrawal from the ruling coalition on May 16, 2019 leading to Parubiy ending the coalition.<\/p>\n

“The coalition, formed in 2014 and operated until today, completed its tasks […] It has fulfilled all important legal acts for the past five years,” the leader of People’s Front faction, Maksym Burbak, said.<\/p>\n

According to the current legislation, a new majority coalition must be formed within one month.<\/p>\n

“I call on representatives of all factions and groups to begin consultations on the formation of a new coalition. And let’s admit it has been a good coalition,” Parubiy said immediately after the echo of the old coalition breakup announcement rang.<\/p>\n

The coalition breakup now makes it almost impossible for immediate dissolution of the Parliament, as newly-elected as president Volodymyr Zelenskyi wanted. According to the law,<\/p>\n

Parliament cannot be dissolved within six months of an upcoming parliamentary election. That election is scheduled for the end of October 2019.<\/p>\n

The European Ukraine coalition was created on November 27, 2014. At the time, it included the factions of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, People’s Front, Samopomich, the Radical Party and Batkivschyna. It consisted of 302 MPs. Later, Samopomich, Radical Party and Batkivschyna announced their withdrawal from the coalition but there were still enough MPs left to keep the ruling coalition in power.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
