Because of his studies, he didn&#8217;t visit his home village of Kozubivka as often as he&#8217;d like to. But it is there where that he realized the project &#8211; the <em>Drevo<\/em> ethnographic museum.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is the family home of my great grandparents, who built this house with their own hands. And when it was empty I decided to make something out of it,&#8221; Eduard Krutko said.<\/p>\n<p>The house is full of authentic items that Eduard collected all over the village.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;First I went to the neighbors who I knew. After that, I went around asking old ladies that I knew had to have some old photos and things left around,&#8221;\u00a0Krutko explained.<\/p>\n<p>But his most cherished exhibits, Eduard found in old abandoned houses.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Vintage photos, shirts, paintings, icons&#8230; I think these are the most valuable things. They were saved from oblivion,&#8221; Krutko added.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-34904\" src=\"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Kapinos2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" \/>Photo UATV<\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Eduard&#8217;s project was honoured with the Oleksandr Kapinos Award named after an ethnographer who lost his life during the Euromaidan Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was so symbolic that I can immortalize or contribute to Oleksandr&#8217;s cause. The main thing is that for their ideas to live on. Just like in that song: bodies will perish, but the idea will live,&#8221;\u00a0Krutko said.<\/p>\n<p>The Kapinos Award was established to honour activists who realize cultural, education, social or environmental initiatives in their small towns and villages.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When we pondered what the award in memory of our Oleksandr should be like, we started with what he himself held dear and close to his heart, which is to study, to revive and to preserve the traditions of the Ukrainian people and its cultural heritage,&#8221; Co-Founder of the Oleksandr Kapinos Award, Olena Kotlyar said.<\/p>\n<p>Olena met Oleksandr at the EuroMaidan protest. That&#8217;s when they began dating. The activist was killed during the tragic bloodiest days. Olena decided to continue the work that was his passion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He gathered young people around him, who wanted to revive the Ukrainian culture, because our traditions are beautiful,&#8221; Kotlyar added.<\/p>\n<p>Visiting the home village of Oleksandr Kapinos it is impossible not to notice his legacy. There&#8217;s a monument to him in the village centre, plaques on the wall of administrative buildings, and a small museum created inside his school. Photos and flags aside, the exhibit includes many of the vintage household items collected by Kapinos. The school principal is also proud of Oleksandr&#8217;s efforts in support of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in its struggle for independence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was his cause. Even at a young age, he took part in organizing rallies for a unified Ukrainian church,&#8221;\u00a0school principal Mykola Chopovitskiy said.<\/p>\n<p>Kapoinos was also adamant that it takes a healthy nation to make a strong nation. Several months before the Maidan, he started building a gym in a basement. He not only promoted healthy lifestyle, but made his own life a shining example of it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even though he had lots of work at home, he spent evenings riding his bicycle to the stadium where we used worked out together. And he used that bike to travel too,&#8221; Oleksandr&#8217;s friend, Oleh Hontaruk said.<\/p>\n<p>Oleksandr&#8217;s friends also helped in continuing his projects after his death.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was an unbelievable person. A leader. You could feel a very strong energy in his presence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Oleksandr&#8217;s mother greeted us at the door and welcomed us into the house.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was Oleksandr&#8217;s room. It was empty for a long time and now his nieces live here. They wanted it because that&#8217;s where Oleksandr lived.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Oleksandr knew Taras Shevcheko&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Kobzar<\/em> by heart, his mother says. He also dreamed of building a bandura with his own hands.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;s even picked a cherry tree in the garden to use for that. He wanted to walk from village to village sharing Ukrainian folk songs with people.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At the Euromaidan Revolution Oleksandr didn&#8217;t have a bandura, but a guitar. Until the final days of the uprising, he lifted the spirits of those around him by performing his favourite song <em>My Ukraine<\/em>. After Oleksandr&#8217;s death, the guitar was returned to his sister.
