The legend says, the bird led Hungarians westward, to Europe, where they founded their state.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nomadic Hungarian tribes arrived on the territory of Zakarpattia and the Middle Danube, which is the ancient Pannonia from the Ural mountains in the late 9th century,&#8221; said a researcher at the Mukachevo History\u00a0Museum, Oleksandr Tsylio.<\/p>\n<p>The castle is always full of tourists, both from Ukraine and abroad, most commonly from Hungary.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are many exhibits connected to the history of Hungary. For instance, one is dedicated to the dynasty of Transylvanian kings Rakoczi, the last of whom was Ferenc II,&#8221; Tsylio said.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of the population in Berehove county are ethnic Hungarians. On the streets, the Hungarian language is more common than Ukrainian. Buildings are decorated with not just Ukrainian, but also Hungarian flags. Many street signs and store names are in two languages. Also, 22 years ago, a Hungarian-language university was established. It was named after Ferenc Rakoczi.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hungarians living in Zakarpattia wanted to have a university where the main language of education is Hungarian. The Hungarian side provided assistance. As a result, children of the Zakarpattia Hungarians can obtain higher education in their native language,&#8221; said the head of the culture an tourism department at the Berehove Regional Administration Laszlo Galas.<\/p>\n<p>In the village of Vary, located just a few kilometers away from the border with Hungary, 90 percent of the population are ethnic Hungarians.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s how we live. When we go to Berehove and someone talks to us in Ukrainian, it&#8217;s no\u00a0problem\u00a0at all. The only difference is that we also speak Hungarian,&#8221; said local resident and musician, Shandor Kovacs.<\/p>\n<p>Kovacs and his wife, Erika are musicians. They&#8217;ve been together for 18 years. Kovacs plays seven musical instruments. All four of his children sing in his band. Sometimes they tour abroad.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At the age of 6, I already knew I would be a musician. My grandparents used to sing beautifully. My grandfather was a self-taught concertina player,&#8221; the musician said.<\/p>\n<p>Erika Kovacs is a choirmaster supervising two choirs in the local Reformed church: the children&#8217;s choir and one for their parents.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We thought, let&#8217;s have a children&#8217;s choir. But then, a year later parents wanted to join so we just let them,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We started with simple well-known tunes, because not many in the choir have musical training. But gradually new works enriched our repertory. I sing at the church with my wife and my two daughters,&#8221; said singer and choirmember Andriy Filep.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Music school has been working in this village for many years. And it is very important,&#8221; Bishop at the Reformed Church Oleksandr Zan-Fabian said,&#8221; Children of our parish study there. We have very good organ players.
