{"id":1413062,"date":"2026-07-23T14:24:00","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T11:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/?p=1413062"},"modified":"2026-07-22T12:15:02","modified_gmt":"2026-07-22T09:15:02","slug":"us-reveals-first-air-battle-in-which-a-ukrainian-f-16-shot-down-a-russian-aircraft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/en\/us-reveals-first-air-battle-in-which-a-ukrainian-f-16-shot-down-a-russian-aircraft\/","title":{"rendered":"US Reveals First Air Battle in Which a Ukrainian F-16 Shot Down a Russian Aircraft"},"content":{"rendered":" <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine spoke about how an F-16 shot down a Russian fighter jet for the first time in aerial combat during the Russo-Ukrainian war.<\/p>\n   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said this during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/vs35_8_CyTY\">hearings<\/a> before the Senate Appropriations Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/en\/\">UATV English<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the hearings, Caine was asked about the impact on Ukraine of a possible halt to air defense funding over three years.<\/p>\n   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response, he spoke about the development of Ukraine&#8217;s defense capabilities.<\/p>\n    <blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The incredible work the Ukrainian industrial base is doing involves scaling up its own capabilities. This ranges from their ground-to-air capabilities to their air-to-air capabilities,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this context, the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff spoke about a recent air battle in which a Ukrainian F-16 destroyed a Russian aircraft.<\/p>\n    <blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Recently we witnessed the first air-to-air engagement in which a Ukrainian F-16 shot down a Russian fighter jet. Over the past several years, with the support of many partners, Ukraine has significantly strengthened its layered defense system,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a reminder, in April Norway&#8217;s prime minister assured that the first of the F-16s promised by the country for Ukraine would soon be ready to fly.<\/p>\n   <p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In June, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken said his country had decided to hand over more fighter jets to the Armed Forces of Ukraine than previously promised.
