NATO plans over the next two years to carry out a large-scale rearmament along the border with Russia and Belarus, stockpile significantly more weapons there, and create an unmanned robotic zone, UATV English<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was stated to Welt am Sonntag<\/a> by Bundeswehr Brigadier General Thomas L\u00f6win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00f6win became the first NATO general to publicly speak about a new defense concept \u2014 Eastern Flank Deterrence Line (EFDL). According to the newspaper, this concept is planned to be implemented, if possible, by the end of 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will see noticeably larger stockpiles than before in NATO states bordering Russia,\u201d L\u00f6win told the outlet. He is the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations at NATO\u2019s Land Command in Izmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, this will include, for example, \u201cweapons and ammunition depots for rearming defense systems in the automated zone, as well as for equipping NATO forces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00f6win noted that the Alliance intends to \u201cbuild a comprehensive, multi-layered defense system along the border with Russia and Belarus and to use not only conventional forces for defense, but also obstacles and technologies to create a robotic or automated zone in the border area with the adversary, which the adversary would first have to overcome.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A system of reconnaissance sensors and largely automated and robotic weapons is intended to help stop Russian forces at the initial stage of an attack, while at the same time preserving the lives of NATO soldiers. According to the general, the new automated zone on the border with Russia and Belarus will be predominantly unmanned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recall that on October 16, the European Commission presented to member states a comprehensive plan to strengthen European defense capabilities, which, among other things, provides for countering drones and other threats from the air, sea, and space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also reported that the European Union wants to create a drone alliance with Ukraine at the beginning of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poland plans to begin creating a national counter-drone system without waiting for the implementation of the European Union\u2019s \u201cdrone wall\u201d initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
