Lithuanian President Gitanas Naus\u0117da said that Russia\u2019s demands in negotiations on peace in Ukraine are too large, and that the Kremlin\u2019s lack of response to the ongoing discussions may indicate it is not ready to end the war, UATV English<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naus\u0117da\u2019s remarks were reported by LRT<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He acknowledged the efforts of the United States and Ukraine to bring an end to the war launched by Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHowever, so far we see an extremely limited reaction from the Kremlin, and this does not allow for full optimism,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naus\u0117da stressed that the United States has leverage that it can use in talks with Russia, but said Moscow\u2019s current demands are \u201cdisproportionate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey could lead to a situation where the conditions are simply unacceptable for one of the sides: either, if the terms are favorable to Russia, they will be unacceptable for Ukraine, or vice versa. Therefore, for now, I view the possible outcome of this process cautiously \u2014 even very cautiously,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, the Lithuanian president expressed the view that the next few weeks will show whether Russia truly wants peace and whether it is ready for substantive negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As previously reported, Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump met in Florida on December 28 for peace talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
