The UK government will carry out an urgent independent review<\/strong> into foreign interference in the country\u2019s political and electoral systems<\/strong>, according to a press release on Tuesday, December 16,\u00a0UATV English<\/a>\u00a0reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe government has approved an independent review into foreign financial interference in the UK\u2019s political and electoral systems, which will be led by Philip Rycroft<\/strong>, head of the Department for Exiting the European Union,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The report is expected to be submitted to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government<\/strong> by the end of March 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The review will provide a thorough assessment of current financial rules and safeguards<\/strong> and will propose recommendations to further reduce risks associated with foreign political interference<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government highlighted the case of Nathan Gill<\/strong>, a former UK politician recently sentenced for accepting bribes to promote pro-Russian narratives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe facts are clear. A British politician took bribes to advance the interests of the Russian regime \u2014 a regime that forcibly deported vulnerable Ukrainian children and killed a British citizen on UK soil using a deadly nerve agent. This conduct is a stain on our democracy. The independent review will work to remove this stain,\u201d said Housing Secretary Steve Reed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
