{"id":1263718,"date":"2025-12-03T21:11:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T19:11:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/?p=1263718"},"modified":"2025-12-03T16:14:18","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T14:14:18","slug":"eu-commission-to-add-russia-to-the-grey-list-over-money-laundering","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/en\/eu-commission-to-add-russia-to-the-grey-list-over-money-laundering\/","title":{"rendered":"EU Commission to Add Russia to the \u201cGrey List\u201d Over Money Laundering"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>European Commission has decided to add Russia to its \u201cgrey list\u201d<\/strong> of countries with a high risk of <strong>money laundering and terrorist financing<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/the-eu-is-finally-blacklisting-russia-for-money-laundering\/\">Politico reports<\/a>, citing two EU officials and reviewed documents,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UATV English\u00a0<\/a>reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Financial Action Task Force (FATF)<\/strong> suspended Russia\u2019s membership in the organization after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but <strong>failed to place Moscow on its grey list<\/strong>, despite evidence provided by the Ukrainian government.<br>The decision was blocked by <strong>BRICS countries<\/strong> \u2014 Brazil, India, China, and South Africa \u2014 which resisted efforts to sanction Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the <strong>European Parliament repeatedly urged the European Commission<\/strong> to take the step that FATF did not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Politico has reviewed the Commission\u2019s draft decision regarding Russia, which will be added as an annex to the updated grey list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EU already has <strong>a wide range of sanctions<\/strong> severely restricting Russian firms\u2019 access to European financial services.<br>Listing Russia will take place amid the Commission\u2019s attempts to <strong>overcome Belgium\u2019s resistance<\/strong> to using the income from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once added, <strong>financial institutions will be required to strengthen due diligence measures for all transactions<\/strong> involving Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EU typically aligns its listings with FATF decisions, but starting this year the bloc has its own <strong>Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA)<\/strong>.<br>AMLA <strong>will participate in compiling the grey list beginning in July 2027.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The European Commission has decided to add Russia to its \u201cgrey list\u201d &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":67,"featured_media":1263720,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[13,49,36418,36415],"tags":[78],"sources":[],"class_list":["post-1263718","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-news-en","category-11473-news-en-2","category-11473-news-en","tag-homepage-en"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
