Belgium<\/strong> will reinforce its National Air Security Centre and introduce new counter-drone measures after several unidentified UAVs<\/strong> were detected in sensitive areas, The Guardian<\/a><\/em> reports, according to UATV English<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belgian intelligence services believe the drones spotted near military bases and airports<\/strong> were operated by a state actor \u2014 \u201cmost likely Russia\u201d<\/strong>, the newspaper notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister of Defence Theo Francken<\/strong> announced that the National Air Security Centre in Bevekom (Beauvechain) will be strengthened and become fully operational in the coming months<\/strong>, following the latest drone incident that disrupted operations at Brussels Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After today\u2019s National Security Council meeting, Francken confirmed that counter-drone measures were discussed and will be detailed in the coming days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister stressed that authorities have been given \u201cclear instructions\u201d to shoot down drones<\/strong> that violate Belgian airspace, VRT<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Belgium\u2019s Prime Minister Bart De Wever<\/strong> had earlier convened an emergency meeting of the national security council after drones were detected near multiple airports overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
