press conference<\/a> at the White House on October 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\nSpeaking to journalists, Trump revealed details of his recent phone conversation with Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and his plans to meet him in Hungary. According to Trump, the talks are aimed at finding ways to end the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI walked into this situation \u2014 I didn\u2019t start this war. This is Biden\u2019s thing. I came in, and it was a total mess that could have led to World War III. In my view, that could have happened. But it will not,\u201d Trump emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that his goal is to \u201csave lives\u201d and promote peace in Europe. According to him, the Biden administration made strategic mistakes that led to Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, while such aggression would not have happened under his presidency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m doing this to save souls. That\u2019s all I\u2019m doing it for. I\u2019m not doing it for us \u2014 there\u2019s an ocean between us. But I want to help Europe. They want the war to end, but they can\u2019t make it happen. And I can,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The U.S. president also addressed the relationship between the leaders of Ukraine and Russia, calling it \u201cterrible,\u201d which, he said, complicates efforts to arrange joint meetings. He confirmed that he discussed the supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine with Putin, noting that the Russian ruler was \u201cnot very happy\u201d about the idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Trump added that while the United States has many Tomahawk missiles, they are also needed domestically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe also need the Tomahawks for the United States of America. We have a lot of them, but we need them. We can\u2019t drain our country. They\u2019re very important. They\u2019re very powerful. They\u2019re very precise. They\u2019re very good. But we need them too,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that his October 16 conversation with Vladimir Putin was \u201cgood.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI asked him about the Tomahawks for Ukraine \u2014 \u2018You don\u2019t mind if I give a few thousand Tomahawks to your opponent, do you?\u2019 He didn\u2019t like the idea,\u201d Trump said with a laugh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also noted that his meeting with Putin in Hungary is expected to take place \u201cfairly soon,\u201d likely within two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMarco Rubio, as you know, will meet with his counterpart Lavrov, and that meeting will happen very soon,\u201d the U.S. president added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
