{"id":1228310,"date":"2025-10-05T19:55:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-05T16:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/?p=1228310"},"modified":"2025-10-02T12:52:41","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T09:52:41","slug":"kos-urges-hungary-to-discuss-minority-issues-in-ukraine-within-first-accession-cluster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uatv.ua\/en\/kos-urges-hungary-to-discuss-minority-issues-in-ukraine-within-first-accession-cluster\/","title":{"rendered":"Kos urges Hungary to discuss minority issues in Ukraine within first accession cluster"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following her visit to Ukraine&#8217;s western Zakarpattia region and meetings with representatives of the Hungarian minority, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos highlighted the protection of minority rights and called on Hungary to raise any concerns with Ukraine within the framework of the first accession negotiation cluster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said this in an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukrinform.net\/rubric-polytics\/4042460-marta-kos-eu-commissioner-for-enlargement.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">interview&nbsp;<\/a>with Ukrinform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I&#8217;m still optimistic that we could open all the clusters \u2013 this year \u2013 and that we will find a solution with Hungary. Especially now, since I have visited Zakarpattia on Monday where I wanted to see how the minorities live, including the Hungarian minority, and I&#8217;m sure that they have a lot of rights. I have met two representatives of the Hungarian minority. Nobody was complaining. So this will be also my message when I come back to Brussels,&#8221; Kos said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She stressed that any remaining Hungarian concerns regarding minorities could be addressed within negotiations without blocking the opening of the first cluster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;If there are any concerns, and there are concerns, from Hungary, which we are taking very seriously, it\u2019s exactly within cluster one where we tackle and discuss all the concerns Hungary has. Because the first cluster is about the Fundamentals, and there is no way that we would accept a country into the EU if it does not protect the minorities. This is the DNA of the European Union, so we just have to find a proper way,&#8221; Kos said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kos stressed that she will closely monitor the protection of minority rights, as this is a core principle for the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Indeed, I said &#8216;strict,&#8217; but I will also be fair and engaged. There are many reasons why we have to be strict, not just myself, with the Fundamentals. This is what makes us so unique.
