If Europe refuses to finance a strong Ukrainian army and help Ukraine defend itself, it will eventually have to build up its own military and pay double or even triple the cost, as the same threat will come to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ukraine’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya stated this in an interview<\/a> with Ukrinform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf they bury their heads in the sand, the same thing that happened to Ukraine will happen to them. History is cyclical\u2014Europe has seen this in various centuries, though the level of technological sophistication in warfare and politics was different,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kyslytsya cited historical examples such as the Soviet Union\u2019s invasions of Finland and Poland, and the deployment of Soviet troops in Czechoslovakia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why, if some hedonistically inclined European citizens hope this will simply pass\u2026 If they do nothing, it won\u2019t pass. They\u2019ll have to pay double or triple the price, because if they don\u2019t want to fund a strong Ukrainian army and help us defend them, they\u2019ll have to build up their own,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The First Deputy Minister expressed his belief that Europe in the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s had sunk into a state of \u201cdeep hedonism,\u201d enjoying the benefits of social welfare, partly at the expense of responsible attention to its own security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As previously reported, Finnish President Alexander Stubb stated that security guarantees for Ukraine would signify the readiness of European countries to confront Russia if it launches military action against Kyiv again in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
