interview<\/a> with an Ukrinform correspondent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u201cThe weaknesses of democracies lie in the fact that they appear very resilient\u2014able to withstand shocks\u2014but at the same time, they are highly changeable. If the political majority shifts, tomorrow\u2019s policies can\u2019t remain the same. In France, this is clearly visible. On a political level, it\u2019s a real apocalypse,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He warned that the potential rise to power of Marine Le Pen\u2019s party\u2014given the far-right\u2019s sympathies toward Vladimir Putin\u2014could drastically alter France\u2019s stance on Ukraine. The current government, led by S\u00e9bastien Lecornu, may only last a few more months amid the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEven if it lasts six months, that\u2019s not enough for Ukraine in the long term. Personally, I\u2019m very concerned about the 2027 elections. The National Rally is leading the polls, easily securing 33\u201335% in the first round of the last parliamentary elections. That\u2019s significant. If Marine Le Pen or Jordan Bardella becomes president, what then? They\u2019ll go to Moscow like Donald Trump did with Putin, saying \u2018we\u2019re friends\u2019 and so on. We\u2019re living in a very unstable period, where 10-year forecasts are impossible,\u201d Richoux explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that French society is currently too absorbed in domestic issues and not ready to go beyond the level of support it already provides to Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI am a strong supporter of Ukraine, and I deeply regret to say this, but the real concerns of the French people right now are domestic politics, purchasing power, rising taxes, and uncertainty about who will be in government tomorrow. This doesn\u2019t inspire optimism, especially with the (presidential \u2013 ed.) elections just a year and a half away, in 2027. So today, I don\u2019t see our ability to go beyond what we\u2019re already doing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As previously reported, in France, the leaders of the far-right National Rally\u2014whether represented by Marine Le Pen or Jordan Bardella\u2014currently hold the strongest chances of winning the first round of the 2027 presidential election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
